Located in New York City's historic West Village, the United States Appraiser’s Warehouse was built between 1892-1899. Construction of the Romanesque Revival style building began under supervising architect Willoughby J. Edbrooke. Originally, it consisted of two floors but an additional eight floors were added. Customs agents used the warehouse to examine and assess imported goods to set valuations and duties, and it was used to this end until the 1930’s when the government converted it to an office building: the United States Federal Building. It was listed on the National Register of Landmarked Buildings in 1974. In 1982 the building was converted to residential use and is now known as The Archive.

In 2022, Luay Bahoora Architects repurposed the first two floors as retail space and designed the new and fabulously maximalist interior architecture for Sabyasachi Mukherjee, an acclaimed Indian fashion designer. The space is the brand’s flagship U.S. store. Aurora Lampworks modified, rewired, and UL listed dozens of chandeliers, sconces, pendants, and even a few table lamps for the renovated space; all fixtures were brought up to U.S. and U.L. standards. While much of the work was performed in our Brooklyn-based studio, the final assembly and dressing of the chandeliers was completed on site over several weeks. William Armstrong Lighting Design strategically placed the chandeliers and auxiliary down lights to highlight magnificent artifacts and clothing throughout the 5,800 square foot showroom, lending it a museum-like quality.
