Met Museum: British Galleries
New York, New York

The Metropolitan Museum of Art reopened The New British Galleries in March, 2020 following a renovation that resulted in a " ...reimagined suite of ten galleries [that] provide a fresh perspective on the period, focusing on its bold, entrepreneurial spirit and complex history."

Aurora Lampworks undertook the complex wiring of three grand chandeliers along with two sets of candelabras in the historic Kirtlington Park, Croome Court, and Lansdowne House interiors located at the heart of the British Galleries.

We worked closely with the museum's conservators and design team to non-invasively and unobtrusively integrate many small but powerful LED spotlights into the chandeliers. Our fabricators prepared delicate brackets with thin flexible arms for the spotlights. The integration is completely reversible — it doesn't require any modification to the chandelier, and allows for precise adjustment of the spotlights.

Many of the fixtures in this collection required external wiring. Our wires were covered in sheathing that was painted to match the fixture. The wiring carefully tied down to follow the contours of the fixtures — the resulting external wiring is nearly invisible.
